It was with shock and sadness that we learned of the passing of OSSCO board member Hazel L. Outram Saint-Pierre on January 5, 2018. Hazel lived life to the fullest and was well known for her volunteer activities. She was an active volunteer with Ontario Society of Senior Citizens Organizations (OSSCO) including our Senior Advisory Committee which organized the Seniors Symposium on Reducing Social Isolation as well as elder abuse prevention in retirement homes.

Hazel continued to volunteer with Lumacare’s Caregiver and Clients Committee (lunch program).  She reviewed complaints, conducted complaints investigations and provided input into menu and meal changes. She also represented Lumacare’s seniors group. From 2010 – 2015, she volunteered with Family Services Toronto, Seniors Advisory Committee. She made community presentations to seniors on positive and negative aspects of aging and researched problems for seniors. Hazel assisted in the setting up of Pat’s Place, an emergency shelter for individual clients who were experiencing problems in their regular housing (i.e. abuse, family changes).

Volunteering was a passion for this energetic octogenarian. Hazel volunteers with Judy Sgro, Federal Liberal Member, York Centre, in her office and, participates in round table discussions.

Before retiring from the workplace, Hazel worked for 20 years at the CIBC International Department, Head Office, balanced all gold and silver transactions. Hazel's energy and love of life will be missed. Hazel leaves behind her husband, Martin, a daughter and several grandchildren.
